Wellington West Awarded Best Managed Company Status

Wellington West Holdings Inc., a privately held, employee-owned financial services firm, today announced that it has requalified to maintain its status as a Best Managed company, according to Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies program for 2007, sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National Post, and Queen's School of Business.

"We have a winning formula," said Kish Kapoor, president, Wellington West Holdings Inc. "We work hard, we have fun and we have momentum. We have a strong and healthy balance sheet and we continue to seek out and add top talent in our selected markets across Canada."

"We believe that there are three vital building blocks to sustainable growth: strategy, capability and commitment. Wellington West has demonstrated it is a model of success in all three areas and is duly awarded one of Canada's Best Managed," said John Hughes, Partner, Private Company Services group with Deloitte, a national sponsor of the Best Managed program.

Earlier this year, Wellington West was ranked as No. 2 Best Employer in the 2008 Hewitt Associates / Report on Business 50 Best Employers survey. This is the third consecutive year the company has been awarded with the No. 1 or No. 2 spot.

“To be accredited as one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is a remarkable achievement," said Calvin Younger, senior vice-president, CIBC Commercial Banking. "This award is a tribute to these companies' strong leadership, talented workforce and unsurpassed corporate values. They are models of success for companies striving to reach the highest standards."

"We are truly honoured to be once again among this prestigious group of leading companies," said Mr. Kapoor.

About Canada's 50 Best Managed program

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies continues to be the mark of excellence for Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. Every year since the launch of the program in 1993, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies have competed for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates their management skills and practices. The awards are granted on three levels:

  1. Best Managed winner (one of the 50 new winners selected each year);
  2. Requalified member (repeat winners retain the Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to annual operational and financial review):
  3. Platinum Club member (winners that maintain Best Managed status for a minimum of six consecutive years.) Program sponsors are Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National Post, and Queen's School of Business.
